What if I can't attend the concert?
In the event that you are unable to attend a performance and you are a season ticket holder, tickets may be exchanged for a future concert by calling the office by noon on the day of the performance you are unable to attend. Another great option is to donate your ticket back to the Everett Symphony for resale by 5:00 pm the day of the performance you are unable to attend. This supports the organization and provides you with a tax-deductible donation. Your receipt for donation of the value of the tickets will be mailed to you.
How long can I expect the concert to last?
Concerts vary in length depending on the program but are generally one and half or two hours which includes the intermission.
What is the appropriate dress?
The Symphony provides a first class musical experience without sophisticated rules. We want your evening out to be as fun and enjoyable as possible. So dress up or down, whichever is your preference. We have found that most concert-goers in the Northwest usually dress as they would if they were going to a play or a nice family restaurant. You will see coats and ties and dresses, but also business casual. Everyone is welcome at the Everett Symphony!
Where am I going to park?
Free parking is available on all the streets surrounding the venues where we perform as well as in a parking lot behind the Civic Auditorium.
What provisions are made for patrons with disabilities?
All venues are accessible to patrons using crutches, walkers or wheelchairs. Please call the Everett Symphony Office in advance @ 425-258-1605 to arrange for seating assistance.
Are Hearing Devices Available?
Yes, please contact the usher for assistance.
Are there ways to learn more about the music?
The Everett Symphony publishes a free newsletter, Symphony Notes, which is mailed out prior to performances. Symphony Notes contains accessible articles about the music and musicians that you can expect to hear in upcoming performances. In addition, prior to all classical concerts at Everett Civic Auditorium, Maestro Cobbs or the guest conductor gives a pre-concert talk in the Everett High School cafeteria at 7pm. The conductor explains the concert program in an informal setting and answers questions. The guest soloist(s) for the evening also present their in-depth impressions of the piece they are to perform. At the performance, programs are distributed that include easy-to-read program notes. Knowledge about a piece of music is helpful but not necessary to enjoying the concert. To paraphrase Aaron Copland, people who know nothing about music are the best listeners, as they react to how the music makes them feel, as opposed to focusing on background or technical information.
Are symphony concerts appropriate for children?
Yes, all symphony concerts are appropriate for children who can sit quietly for 45 minutes or more at a time. Toddlers may have trouble sitting still for the length of the concert, so parents are asked to use their discretion.
In addition, the Everett Symphony has two concerts per year, with two performances each, specifically targeted to elementary age children. The Explore Music! Series provides children the opportunity to experience a live symphonic concert at a very reduced price. The concerts are open to all public, private and home schools. Each teacher is provided a study guide and cd a few weeks prior to the concert so classroom activities can prepare the students for this awesome experience. Please encourage your child's music teacher to bring the entire class to these performances. Reservations are made by calling the Everett Symphony office at 258-1605.
Another very popular holiday concert for children of all ages is the traditional performance of the Nutcracker offered by the Everett Symphony and a ballet company.
What are the policies at concerts regarding photography and recording?
Photography, video and audio recording are prohibited at all Everett Symphony concerts. We also ask that everyone turn off all cell phones, beepers and beeping watches for the entire performance.
What if I arrive late to a concert?
You will be seated during a suitable break in the performance.
Is smoking permitted in the building or on the property of the auditorium?
Smoking is not permitted in the building or on the school district property.
